Labor Day

5 Sep

Can you believe Labor Day is here! I hope you are all doing something fun with friends and family. Well summer is almost over and I have been unemployed for almost a year.  After a difficult job, at a financial services firm (more on that in another post), I decided to leave to relieve a mountain load of stress and pursue other interests.  First order of business was to kick start my weight loss regime. Check…dropped 30 pounds!  Thank you YMCA.  Now, I can fit into my clothes again and I feel fantastic.  Now, I just need to find a fabulous new job so I can afford to supplement what I do have left.

It was also a great  time to pare down my wardrobe and give to those in need.  I donated all the clothing that no longer fit to a local charity.  No need to have them at the ready.  I suppose that elimates the weekly visits to  Cupcake Charlies.

Next, I joined the local library and had planned to read a book a week; well that didn’t quite work out as planned but I did take out a couple of cookbooks.  Imagine the surprise on my husband’s face when he came home to a nice home cooked dinner!  Now, that doesn’t sound too impressive to those of you who are just getting to know me,  but you have to realize, I barely knew how to turn on the oven!   At this point, though, Paul Deen has nothing to worry about.
As blogging is a great form of communication, today being Labor Day, was the perfect day to kick  it off.

I  hope that you will find something that might be of interest and will visit frequently.

What a great idea! A little coffe chat virtual get together. I like that it leaves topics wide open to what ever moves you on that day. You’re better than I am. I forgot to write a Labor Day post LOL.

    Hi Diane.

I joined the ranks of the unemployed at the end of July, but I have two elementary age kids that kept me literally running on Dunkin Donuts coffee the last month. The older starts school tomorrow, the baby starts Kindergarten next week (you met her at our Cookie Swap at Deb’s when she was an infant!!) So when they go back, I get to do tons of housework that was deferred when I was working full time and start to work on ME. Not too desperate
for a job just for the sake of working, actually, but a decent job that works with my kids’ schedules.

I applaud your determination to get healthy. It must have felt really good to donate all those

I think this is a great idea, will look forward to your posts.

Thanks for checking me out Nancy; I hope that I will come up with enough to keep your interest. Of course, I remember your children. I try to keep up via Deb’s blog. Looks like you all had a pretty good summer. Good luck with your job search, too!

Great start! I’ve marked your blog (as I have with others) and will visit it as long as you write. I also enjoy rainy days which frequently brings back memories of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The rain there is not as pronounced as England, but the fog there is so, so mysterious!!

Bob…Thank you for checking it out. I hope to post at least twice a week. Isn’t it funny how weather can trigger a memory?!

    Hello Di,
A home cooked meal…I can’t believe it. Please tell me you took a picture of Joe…

The boys were taught well and I have to say I enjoy having the roles reversed. Please don’t over do it as I will need to follow and I do like to be spoiled by my husband!

    Your loving sister-in-law.
